Looking for some guidance. I got a quote of €400 for rear brake pads, discs and brakes shoes on both sides. Is this reasonable for an i20?

It is from a main dealer.
But Ive never ever fitted a set of shoes on an I20.Pads and discs alright but never shoes.
    Time for a second opinion.

Do they not have hand brake shoes in the rear ?

What are you getting? Can't really follow your post. Are you getting front and rear pads, and front and rear discs? I think the days of relpacing shoes are gone no??Cos they just for handbrake.
I doubt you need all new discs.
Is it one of the convenience brake and tire franchise s?
I would go to one of your local (ask around) independents, they should tell what you really really need and be competitive.

Forgetting about the shoes....Good enough pads and discs all round cost around 150-200 for parts, so they want to charge you 200-250 labour. Labour for pads & discs would be how much time?? Around 1hr?

How can you tell that they don't need to be changed in this instance ??

He isn't saying that in fairness, he's only saying he's never seen them needing/being changed.

Thanks for the replies. We were told initially it was just the pads then we left it in for the repairs and they advised there were more issues and didn't replace the pads. It is one of the convenience franchises. I copied more or less what they said in their text to me as I obviously don't have a clue.

Get it out of there and bring it in to a regular garage. Some of those franchises have a reputation for recommending and carrying out unnecessary work.

Because in all my years working for Hyundai Ive never seen an I20 needing shoes.
Id say whats wrong is the handbrake is to the roof and the garage has jumped and said it needs shoes when actually the pads and discs (Id even question the discs on an I20 to be honest) and an adjustment of the rear shoe adjuster will fix it.

Exactly. Unless auntie Nelly has been driving to mass with the handbrake on I think the op is being conned.
