Maybe this has been covered here before but does anyone else feel that machinery has gotten very expensive

I think so too, any kind of plain 8ft disk mower is around 6500, the "good" brands are around 8000. I never realised things were so expensive

Ye without a doubt. Even the price of some second hand tractors seem to be way to high

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,121 ✭✭✭✭patsy_mccabe

I think the problem now with new tractors is there are not enough guys earning enough to write off a new tractor against tax.

This would be a good place to record all prices paid for machinery. Handy reference to have.

80 to 100k on a good brand high spec new loader tractor is just not worth it for the majority of livestock farmers, especially as they are generally less reliable and alot more expensive to service.

I just ordered a new kverneland 3228 moco mounted mower. €14000 inc vat. That took serious fighting too.

    What cutting with is that?

Are they still doing zero finance on kv stuff?

Roughly 9ft 4". The next one up was nearly 10ft 6" which I reckoned was way too much pressure for the cross shaft of my tractor to handle.

Alot of manufacturers do their own finance options but I rather to do my own dealing with finance companies and leave the finance out of the machine costing. Many might not know this but if you finance a machine then it is priced into the machine that's why salesmen ask ya is it being financed through them before you get your first price offer.

So in fact 0% finance isn't 0% as an extra bit is factored into the machine cost before the price battle begins

Got a pottinger here back in late 2017 for 14500, brother works their so got it at trade price with 500 euro for the dealer, to buy would of been 17500 if you walked in with cash in-hand

Are you keeping the 2nd landini as a 2nd tractor? How many tractors have you in total now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭foxy farmer

This country is a rip off when it comes to machinery. The dealers want mad money for gear. Contractor showed me a UK website selling a brand new 2500 gallon tanker manufactured here. It's 6k less in the UK even with vat and currency taken into account.
There's dealers in the north importing new machinery of well known Irish brands from the UK as opposed to direct from the manufacturers here. I wonder why?

10ft 302 with conditioner, brilliant mower, the hydraulic self-leveling really sets it apart from other mounted mowers, heavy though 1320kgs you wouldn’t want to be messing about when on hilly ground/turning sharply

No 2nd one is traded in. Staying one-man band till the young lad is 16. Well that's the plan but who knows what'll happen

That’s interesting. €1400 odd for 1320kgs of machinery. About ten years ago insurers allowed €10,000 per ton replacement costs. That is for giant industrial equipment but I guess it’s not too far off the mark?

Bought a new keenan feeder a few weeks ago, will be delivered in a few weeks. The figure the sales rep gave me first was crazy. Told him to come back when he had proper figures. They wanted my machine so was happy enough in the end with the deal, but what he was saying first was mental

I always tell people never be in a rush to buy machines. You have to play the long game sometimes. I buy that much that salesmen don't really mess me about. Could really only be a few 100 from the first to final price. Always be ready to walk away from a deal.

Sounds like the experience I had the 1st time the dairymaster sales rep did up a price for me for a new milking parlour here. I think he was simply teasing out how much of an absolute gob****e I was and how many extras he could lob in, I wasn't long telling him he was 30 or 40k out from quotes from 2 other manufacturers and he wasn't long then slashing his price down to being surprisingly competitive in the end!!

Ye I think they thought first of all sure what would she know. I was busy with a heifer calving with twins, I think they changed their tune fairly quickly. A big drop from first price to final one.

Would you mind elaborating? Maybe even a percentage difference between first price and final price.

Seems mad that there isn't just a price on mechinary. They have to know what they need to sell it for to make a profit, but seem happy to rip off the not so frequent less informed buyers.

I love the Wolf of wallstreet, its about as far away from my daily life as you can get. But coming back to machinery, any good deals for a plain 8 -9ft mower

A drop of 12.5% big enough imo

It's massive! Makes the first price he said sound like something he pulled out of his rear. For the easy maths it's 12500 off 100k

I'd say there is lads mighty proud of themselfs after getting 5% off the first price. Sure if one poor devil in every 100 does its worth there time.

Slightly off topic, but I left my car in at a main dealer (had no choice). They gave me a print out of a list of parts needed and a quote for each. 80 euro for windscreen wipers!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Muckit

They'd want to be able to wipe more than the windows for that!
