I have been with you since the beginning of Dec on PAYG. I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that the cost has crept up and I am not using anything extra or above what I had been. I have bee on PAYG with another supplier before and the meter reader gives a costing per day for what is used but this doesn't seem to be on the one supplied from yourselves. Can you inform me if this is possible and if there have been increases in the last 2/3 wks?

    Hi pjcpolly,

Thank you for getting in touch.

There hasn't been a price increase for that period. When there is a price change, this is publicised at least a month before it comes into effect. There will be a price increase as of the start of next month (4% on units and standing charges combined) but the last price increase was last year.

Recent days have been mild for the time of year (apart from at night) but prior to that, it was considerably cold for a time, with snow/sleet, hail and stormy conditions, so increased usage would have occurred across the board.

There are two types of PAYG meter from Electric Ireland if you take a look at the relevant guide on the website for your meter - PAYG and Smarter PAYG. The Smarter PAYG meter is the newer one, for which you do not have to input the code, as it receives it automatically.

Let us know if you have any other questions. We can provide general information about PAYG here in the Social Media department. If you have a query about the meter itself, it is necessary to contact the dedicated PAYG team on 01 8529534. The Live Chat team have access to some PAYG meter information also.

    Best regards,
    Una
