Colour mismatch with registration

    Hi

I'm in the process of buying a new car. The dealer has just registered the car as grey but it is in fact silver.

Dealer is suggesting it can't be registered in silver as its not one of the listed colours, but I can see form RF111 lists silver has an option and I have an existing car registered as silver.

Am I being unreasonable in asking for it to be changed to silver? Does it matter in the grand scheme of things?

Get him to paint the car

I'd drive on as they are very similar. You could say silver is a shiny grey etc. What are you worried about?

Possible resale issues (colour change indicates possible crash damage and cover up)
Future unspecified issues because of a mismatch on a formal document

Quite right if there was a colour mismatch between a car check and the car it would raise caution flags. It would be legit in this case but might be enough to deter a person from even enquiring if you went to sell privately.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask them to change seeing as you are paying for their service

What's the manufacturers name for the colour? Fiat used to categorise some of their colours as a Grey when in fact they were more a bluey-silvery colour. So the car would be registered as Grey which was technically correct.

The manufacturer colour is 'brilliant silver' .

    Contact the vehicle registration office?

On a similar vein, I had a mitsubish mirage that was down as having a steam engine on the log book. Wonder what the road tax on that would be like now? :-)

My VW Golf is registered as an estate...

As are many. I haven't let it bother me. ;)

Seems an unusually error prone database. I'll move on regardless. Thanks for the contributions.

I've emailed, don't really remember the address, about the model of the car being incorrectly recorded at my certificate. Never got any response, so I moved on without much thinking about that again.

Later we moved, so I sent my cert to have the residence address updated. To my surprise the updated cert has the model was updated as well :D

You don’t get to pick the colour the car is registered as. The car has a birth cert that this info comes from. It’s quite common for what we would call silver cars to be registered as grey. It’s no big deal.

Not sure why you wouldn't just get the dealer to correct their mistake tbh. If the mfr. paint colour is silver and reg. cert says grey it could cause issues when selling.

I had an Accord 7th gen that was silver on the logbook but was actually a dark grey. No issue ever, apparently I wasn’t alone as the UK versions were logged as silver by Honda UK. I would imagine that if it has a metallic component in the paint it will be listed as silver unlike the Hyundai i10 ‘s that are just a gloss grey with no metallic.

If you wanted to to just send the logbook back and tick colour change as the reason add new colour, job done.
