When getting a doctor to sign for your gp card application does it have to be the doctor you put on the application or will any practice do? Just that my doctor charges 60 euro to do this (price of a visit) and another local medical centre will do it for 20.

It has to be the GP you are attending.

Do it online - this bypasses the need for the form to be signed (if your doctor has signed up to the medical card online scheme)

You can check if your doctor participates through the PDF here https://www2.hse.ie/services/medical-cards/gps-who-accept-medical-cards.html
(click on Medical Cards) A GP visit application needs to be assessed for a medical card first and if you are not eligible that same application is evaluated for a GP visit.

Surely that's not right? Quick call to the medical council.......then apply online.

Applying online still involves the completed form being printed off and signed off on by your GP

It most definitely does not - that was done away with. (subject to the doctor being registered for online per my previous link)

Now all evidence etc.. and additional requests are handled by online upload.

The doctor accepts (or rejects) the patient online once the eligibility is determined and this is their "signature"

Yeah you just have to select a doctor from the drop down menu online and they accept although most of the time there are issues and the person ends up getting sent out the paper version via email etc that needs to be signed
