Are you sure you're turning the right valve?

You should hear air after one turn sounds like you're turning wrong valve.
If you turned a few times you should have water leave alone call a plumber

Make sure only the centre screw is turning. If the whole plastic piece is then you could have a right old mess if it unscrews out.

    Is the rad inlet open?

Thanks , yeah just the screw turning plastic piece staying in place. Just how far do you turn it , as you say could be a right mess ..

You can turn the PLASTIC piece with your fingers, this is to change the orientation of the drain nozzle (normally, you want it pointing downwards) you just then crack open the slotted screw to vent the rad, 1/2 a turn or so should suffice normally, 4 or 5 turns means something wrong, vent may be blocked, rad valves closed etc.
Before proceeding further check expansion vessel pressure @ > 1.0 bar of if vented system check that you have water in the small (feed&expansion) tank in the attic.

Also have a look at this....https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057964143&page=2

If your system is pressurised is there sufficient pressure?

The inlet and the outlet valve must be opened to get a flow of water through the rad. Some rads have a thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) fitted to one end which automatically adjusts the flow through the rad to give the required room temperature, the valve at the other end may be fully open but if not is all ways open > a 1/4 turn or so to help balancing the flow through all the rads.
