Asking this on behalf of else.

The Tuscon is sold new with a 7 year warranty and now needs a service.

Does anyone know FOR DEFINITE what the position is with servicing this without going to Hyundai main dealer for it, and in the process not affecting the warranty?

Can we use an independent servicer using genuine parts?

We have a Hyundai Kona and were told warranty is valid if serviced in Hyundai dealership. Where that stands legally, I don't know.

To be honest, if you get in big trouble with the car and are looking for possible leeway with costs, your bargaining position is zero if you have not brought it to the main dealer during the warranty period. They won't believe any service history other than their own which is fair enough if costs cone back to them.

Until you using the OEM parts it should be ok.

    Isn’t it a 5 year warranty?

I would go main dealer as you will probably need a clutch or gearbox off them at some stage.

2 years will be covered if genuine parts used, after that it's up to Hyundai if they want to cover those extra 5 years or not.

Hyundai offer a 5 year/unlimited mileage warranty with new cars, not 7 years. It's their sister company Kia who offer 7 years/150,000km.

Don't Hyundai require an annual dealer inspection as part of the terms of the warranty?

    It's 5 years not 7.

For me, another reason to use the dealer option would be also to avoid the he said \ she said issue if any fault happens later.

Hyundai could blame any issues on the time it spent with another garage \ mechanic if you get a fault later down the road.

This is the same reason I would get any alarm, dashcam, leather option or enhanced cupholders fitted by the dealer only.

Once out of warranty its a different story of course...

Yep. They don’t seem to be the most obliging in terms of honouring warranty.

To keep the warranty in tact they must have an annual inspection in the main dealer but you are free to get it serviced outside of the dealer network if using genuine parts. This may cause you troubles if you do have a claim though so it might not be worth it
