Car hit in carpark

Last night in Stillorgan carpark, I returned to a note on my car. The note was from 2 builders who witnessed incident - who also came over and described what happened.

Car was attempting to reverse into space next to me (I was well within parking lines, as was the car 2 spaces away) and they misjudged angle. The other driver did not leave car to check damage and immediately exited car park. The front wheel took most of the damage with slight damage to front wing. My tracking is definitely off.

I rang Blackrock Gardai hoping that they could put other driver in contact with me so I could give them opportunity to repair damage. They advised that is not an option, I have to go make a statement and Gardai will contact witnesses and look for CCTV.

If there is no CCTV will his insurance company accept the witnesses account of events?

Something almost identical to this happened to my wife's car a few months ago in a car park in Cork. A member of the public witnessed it all and spoke to my wife when she returned. My wife also went to the shopping centre management desk and asked if there was CCTV footage and luckily there was. So the wife went to the local Garda station and mentioned this. The Garda went to the shopping centre to view the footage (my wife was not allowed to see it for legal reasons..fair enough).

The driver of the van was even seen getting out, observing the damage, getting back into his van and driving off....so he couldn't claim ignorance.
Anyway, the upshot was the Garda contacted the driver and told them to pay the bill we were sending them via the main dealer (new wing mirror) and if they dragged their heels on the matter then we were to contact the Garda in question.
The witness was not used, the CCTV footage was crucial really.

The matter was sorted and paid for within 2 weeks.

Did you contact the car park owner and ask about CCTV coverage?

Happened my grandmother. witness took the reg, gave and gave it to my grandmother. She went to the garda station and they contacted the culprit and demanded they pay up.

Any reason given by the Gardai on why they feel it's not an option for them to contact the offending driver? I'd love to know what gem they come up with there.

That's not what the OP wrote.

"I rang Blackrock Gardai hoping that they could put other driver in contact with me so I could give them opportunity to repair damage. They advised that is not an option"

The OP wrote that the Gardai won't put the OP in direct contact with the offending driver. They didn't say it's not an option for THEM to contact the offending driver. That's 2 completely different things.

Gardaí happy to help but need to make statement n produce my docs.

I wanted them to have a word with him and pass my details on. They are not happy as he left scene of a accident.

Shopping Centre wont give cctv footage or let me see it.

They'll let the guards see it..

Just make sure they know to keep that particular piece of footage.

Just an update on this, guards have called out to other driver 3 times and left card second time.

I left message with station for Guard to call me yesterday, as this happened 5 weeks ago.

My own insurance company are trying to track down other drivers insurance company via MIBI.

I'd say other driver no interest in speaking to anyone. Any advice on how to proceed?

If it's with your insurance company and the Garda, absolutely nothing else you can do, let them work away on it.

Happened me. After 5 attempts the Gardai said there's nothing they could do until the driver contacted them. It was obviously a lazy Garda, who benefited from me not pursuing it

The gardai would not be in a position to make demands that someone pays up!

Strictly no, but in the interests of moving things along, the Garda might advise the driver that if the damage is repaired there would be no need to charge the driver with leaving the scene of an accident.
