Assuming quality assured not overfat and <30mths depending on how they grade should be somewhere between 1300 and 1400. Should kill out around 330kgs

I would honestly go to mart. I brought a rally nice u grade heifer long heifer to the mart two weeks ago 640 kg ready to hang. She went 1610. You would not get close to it in the factory. If your not happy bring her home

If they are good quality red Lm heifers 1300 would be tops IMO. Base is 3.85 if they grade R+ you will get another 6c/kg and the QA at 12c/kg if you are assured with Bord Bia. TAs they are only 600kgs I think they will only aver R+ at best. At that weight none should be going over fat. So An average price of 4.03/kg.

Killout will be around 54% IMO so they will average 324kgs DW IMO. That will bring them to 1300 euro net approx. It hard to gauge an accurate weight at home in pens.

That would be about the factory value of her.

You can’t bring her home from the factory though

Hauling cattle around the country costs money as well.

There are less and less marts around. Nearest mart to me is 23-25 miles away. Most lads will be an average of that distance. If cattle have flesh on them it is seldom they do better at the mart than the factory except mabe cows if you only have 1-2 but even then if well fleshed they normally do as well or better in the factors.

It's similar for us here locally there's a good selection to choose from. The west is lucky to have such an amount of marts compared to other regions. As regards mart versus factory I think it can vary depending on the customer base especially regarding cows. There's a client in a local mart well able to top the factory trade for young U grade cows on a weekly basis. This isn't the case for all stock but it's not like haulage is free to the factory either at least not for us "soft seller's".

Yea, I can count 8 within 30km here.
    Closest is just 5km.

This isn't true anyway, i got €1.80 and €1.70 per Kilo for two Cows in the mart recently. They were killed the next day.
The best quote i could get off the factory agents was €2.90 per Kg dead, about €1.45 per Kg live.
Also theres at least ten marts within 25 miles of me.

I agree as regards the cow pricing in the mart versus the factory, imo a small number of fit cows will usually sell better in the mart. Are you located in the West? I ask this cause we seem to have an abundance of marts compared to other regions, Leitrim for example has 4 despite being a small county where as Kilkenny has only 1.
