Only front electric windows and drum brakes on the back on a 2015 car would have me look elsewhere.

That's mad money for a 2015 base model Focus.

Here is a 2017 with the newer 1.5 engine for less money:

I'd try and get the more powerful 120bhp in Titanium trim though.

Do all them new focus' have drum brakes?

That one is priced mental. The spec here is horrible in general . The parents are sussing them out at the moment, so had a nose in a main dealer. Every last one of them from style to titanium were 95 hp, one was even either 80 or 85!

Up the north or to the UK, Titanium spec with the 120hp would save you monies and have you in a better place.

My Dad had a ‘15 Titanium and I’m sure it had rear discs but it was the higher powered (a whopping 115bhp I think) version. Pretty sure all the engines below that still had drums. The spec on most Irish Focus’s tends to be average at best, very grim at worst... the asking price on that car in the OP’s post is nuts. Maybe they’ve upped the game a bit with the new model, I don’t know.

Thanks for the replies and the info.
You guys are right, the options for Focuses down here are a bit rubbish. I think I'll probably be looking at something else with a bit more for the money.
Some people have suggested a Kia Ceed or a Golf.

    -Edit
So the mileage is a bit higher on this golf, but its almost 2k cheaper and has an extra 20 horses under the bonnet

Other than the sunroof it's a pretty basic Comfortline Golf which is fairly spartan.

Here is a higher spec Highline for similar money:

Another car worth looking at is the Renault Megane. This one is a 2017 GT model for not much more than a Golf 2 years older:

That Golf has seen hard work too. WX reg, mud flaps, heavy duty boot liner, clutch hole in the drivers mat and a fixed neck tow bar. Spent most of its life drawing an Ifor William's 8x4 double axle with a mini digger in it I'd say.

Apologies in advance but I am looking at buying a Focus myself, and have viewed a few already but good to find this thread.

Why are drums on the back a bad thing? (No mechanical knowledge - apologies!)

The titanium trim seems to only come in 95bhp for the irish market, anything else seems to have come from England.

Drum rear brakes are old hat/tech tbh, but would still presumably be up to the task. I've never read of poor braking performance anyhow.

Titanium trim had a 1.6TDCI engine with either 95 or 115bhp outputs. The latter is essentially the same engine bar the injectors and turbo with extra power and torque for no penalty in fuel consumption. Paddy tended to buy the lower powered version unfortunately.

That engine won't be good without regular and proper servicing. Don't buy one without a full service history with receipts to back it up.

Rear disc brakes are a mickey waving excercise in my opinion. They aren’t of any real benefit in most cars, but they would be notable by their absence.

Renault are doing a lot of stuff with rear drums too.

Found out that it's only the zetec sport and higher bhp ones that have discs in the back, if anyone was wondering. Titanium along with lower spec models have drums.

    We have a 2012 titinium 1.6 tdci 95
    With rear discs.

Not a realy regular poster here but its my opinion of the Ford focus been owner of a 2010 previously is there a good solid car for a medium sized hatch very sharp responsive to drive in bendy roads but average on diesel but very very reliable never had trouble with it , mine had 1.6 turbo diesel an it moved along nice but its all about power to weight ratio imo people over look it it had135k on it when got rid of it never had a days trouble an it had drum brakes too...

Got a 1.9 passat after totally regretted it tbh very overrated car too in my opinion constant problems ( electric handbrakes ) nuisance air conditioning useless and problems , a/c in focus was heaven and ( a much noisier engine than the f.f an not as responsive been a bigger heavier car an didn't handle as good in the bends either a bit wallowy boaty ...

Also I wouldn't rate golfs either had them too others will swear by them but opinions differ I get that, but not for me after you put up the miles there not a smooth drive either start hearing all sorts of noises cheapish.

An I wouldnt have a Kia for half price near 100 yrds of the driveway more cheap rubbish to get around for a few yrs while in warranty an them warranties out slowly falls apart

Have a relative got rid of nisssn Quaskie too buy similiar Kia Suv anyway had problems with gearbox went to well known dealer explained his problems mechanics were stunned and in gobsmacked that he got rid of a Nissan for a Kia , why would you do that he said?

There not bad per se they do what there supposed to do its just discs are more effective stopping

But discs cost more to be maintained/replaced when worn imo its a double edged swords drums are old technology but they last a longer life I wouldnt let drums put me off a good Ford

Very expensive for the car in the OP. Oddly enough, even though it is the base trim, it has fog lights and a heated windscreen, which my 2018 model does not have.

The newer 1.5 diesel engine, although less BHP than the 1.6, is a great engine......frugal, fairly quiet and responsive at low revs. Way way way better than the old 1.7 lump in my previous car, a 132 Astra.

Strange. Unless the rear discs were an optional add on?

Discs are indeed much more powerful but remember that the front brakes do 75-80% of the overall stopping.

p.s. I recall (I think) that historically a petrol powered Focus got rear drums but a diesel of identical trim got discs. Probably to do with weight?

That particular ford garage prices are crazy. They had a promoted post on Facebook, a white focus, mad pricing and they got serious stick over it.

I test drove a 2015 titanium the other day and it was a lovely drive, 1.6 95bhp. Although it obviously a nicer drive than a 1.2 fiesta! 90k on the clock and asking was 13250. The OP link is mad money.
