I paid a 20 euro deposit on a weeks stay in Portugal for may, i foolishly left it too late to book the flights and they're crazy money for four people, ive told alpharooms and they want 360 cancellation fee!! This hotel cost less than 500.

Is there anything other than reporting my bank card lost/stolen that i can do, they will soon take full payment from the card i booked with.

Thats crazy they are charging you that much so early. I cancelled a week before the arrival with travel republic and they only charged me 40.

I dont think theres anything you can do other than have a good read of the T&Cs and make sure to book one next time that you can cancel by a certain date for no fee..

Maybe looking into your dates would be an option are you flying on a saturday? Try looking for a thursday or wednesday flight they may be cheaper and if possible stay in a cheap place for a night or two?

Have you tried skyscanner/ different airlines? Or even a different mode of transport?

Have you looked at flying to a UK airport and then onwards to Portugal?

Tell the bank you lost the card and to cancel it asap and issue you a new one. You should have planned this better no doubt, but do not let a travel company take 360 from you for a holiday you're not going on. They'll be grand and will fill those rooms with other customers.

Cancellng the card will do nothing - the supplier will get the new number from the bank as they have a valid agreement predating the report. You're just wasting your own and the banks time playing silly buggers doing that.

Not having a go at you but why did you not book the flights first then the hotel ? That's what i always do. I also use Revolut prepaid card too and not my own banks card.

    Fair enough.

Well then get a new bank account in another bank?

It's not wasting time if he/she saves themselves that money. 'Playing silly buggers' would be to not do a jot about this.

They will still owe the money - it isn't saving it. And because it's a credit agreement with a bank it'll be reported to the ICB and CCR

Not getting a car loan or a mortgage for half a decade because you mistakenly thought you were being clever over a few hundred quid is, well, not clever.

Buy a pay as you go credit card and and top it up with a tenner and change your card details with them to the new card.

    This also won't work.

    Accommodation Bookings

If you wish to cancel your accommodation more than seven days before departure, you will incur a £49 cancellation charge or the value of the booking – whichever is the least value.

I would contact the hotel directly. If they are willing to waver the cancellation fee id then contact alpharooms again.

I recently had to cancel a hotel room in Cork but unfortunately I was a day late for free cancellation, booking.com gave the option of contacting the hotel to wavier the fee (1 nights fee). Thankfully they agreed.

Other option as someone mentioned is fly via the uk or another irish airport? Belfast even?

^ exactly. Op you need to read a bit more and be careful next time. No way in hell id book the hotel before the flights anyway. There are always limited flights but youll always get a hotel.

Ok, so to update, I've being checking flights for the last two days and on checking for the third time this morning, the price dropped, dont know if it was to do with the kayak app i downloaded yesterday evening but i got cheaper flights, double checked dates, got the flight times i wanted and happy days are here again.
