Has anyone ever dealt with Balgaddy motors? Looking to buy a used car, they have some cars for sale that I’d be interested in but a couple of worrying reviews on Google.

From reading the Google reviews, they seem to be importing UK Cat C/Cat D write-offs that have been repaired.

I'd suggest doing a history check on any potential car (if it's an import get the UK reg off them) and see if anything is flagged up.

A write-off no matter how well repaired could cause trouble with your insurance.

Thanks. Noticed that, is putting me off. Any recommendations for a history check site or are they all much the same?

Cartell is probably the most commonly used.

Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near them given the reviews of them not disclosing that cars are write-offs, even if the car isn't flagged as a write-off there's examples of cars not being written off by the insurance company, and the car would want to be significantly cheaper than the market value for a clean Irish version.

Brilliant thank you. Best to avoid by the sounds of it just to be safe. Assume there would be issues getting a previously written off car insured?

Motorcheck seems to be more detailed and any time I’ve used it they’ve given me a discount code to use just email or ring them..... friend of mine in the trade told me motorcheck has more info

Just jumping in on this, and the thread in general.

I bought a car from these guys in October 2018, as mentioned it was a UK import.

The guy dealing the car had all the paperwork from the UK, details on the repair and was happy for me to do a History Check. Honestly, I got the car for far less than it would be worth, had no problems getting it insured and no problems in general with it, most hassle was getting a spare tire for it. Only reason I came across this thread is because I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger car now to family reasons and wanted to find these guys again to see what I could get.

From what I remember, the cars they import have to be NCT'd on arrival, so they will always be roadworthy, and have more or less two years coverage. The cars are all ones with structural damage, so doors or stuff that have been replaced.

Always do a history check regardless of who you are buying from.
