Food van businness

    Hi everyone.

    Myself and my partner would like to start our own little food/coffee business in a van. That's nothing wow here except we are new into this idea and we can't really decide what's best for such a business. A van or a trailer? We could figure it out ourselves some of the cons and pros but we were wondering if we could get some fresh cons/pros about it. So... what would be better? Van or trailer? And why?

    Also, we can't really find an insurance company for a van? Is any reason why they don't do food van insurance?

    Thank you in advance. We really hope to get some answers or some tips out of this and any information would be highly appreciated.

    Have you done a cash flow forecast, I'm not convinced our weather suits one a premises in a good location might be better. If it's a part time venture it could be a money spinner if you can get in some catering gigs.

    Trailer or Van? Depends on what your thinking and budget, something funky could easily cost you 40k , a standard chip/burger van you could probably get going for maybe 10k a trailer would be cheaper as it has no engine etc.

    What type of trailer would you be going for? If it's one you can stand inside and serve that most likely will be in the BE territory, do either of you have a BE licence and suitable tow vehicle? If buying a trailer you'll also need a tow vehicle and that would need commercial insurance along with insurance for the trailer, where as a van would only need 1 insurance policy.

    Hi guys and thanks for your answers.

    Both of us have B full licence so not sure if that would cover a "stand-inside" type of trailer + van, but that shouldn't be much of a hassle, considering that would be our job and business at the same time.

    Do you think a van would be better, considering everything would be more compact and easy for paper works?
    Does any of you know a nice van conversion company in IE?

    My advice start a food stand in a market of sorys and see how you get on first, get the brand going as such then take it on the road

    Get in touch with IOMST who will be able to answer all your questions. If you go into this without the proper advice it could end up very costly.
