I need to replace a car battery which is now totally dead.

Is there any lost cost option where someone will come with new battery and replace it?

    I'm Dublin 8 based.

Take a taxy and bring the new battery. Only do not tell to the taxy driver what is the story, they scare everything.

    You posted in DIY, OP
Now you must do this job yourself :)

    Drive to a motor factors
    Remove battery from car
Bring it inside - say you want one just like it
Put in new battery in car
Leave old battery at motor factors, they will recycle it

A lot of motor factors will even replace the battery for you. Just tell them the car and they'll fetch the right one and pop it in.

EDIT: But if the car is a non-runner just take a picture of the battery in the car and find other means of transport to the closest motor factors and jobs done.

There is no bracket over the top holding in the battery as in the video. But, SOMETHING is holding it in firmly. Ideas??????

there could be a 10mm bolt at the bottom front or back of the battery holding it in place. If there is a plastic shroud over the battery, take this off and see if you can access it. May need a long ratchet wrench to get at it, kinda awkward.

Are you talking about this by any chance?

There is a 13mm bolt holding a securing clamp down at the front ogf the battery, i.e. facing toward the front of the car. may be concealed by the black plastic battery box. That looks like a VW Polo. Think they take an 065 battery but just type your registration number into micks garage or give it to your local motor factors and they will sort you out

Ah, but we all make those same realisations no matter how experienced we are. Now you know, and can do it in the future! It's a fun process! Next up, oil change!
