Lisa Smith "charm and candour" Khalid Kelly "pompous and puffed up popinjay"

If people want any more proof of the biased way men and women are reported on in the media
What struck me most about Smith - apart from her remarkable charm and candour - was her enthusiasm and commitment to her new way of life.

The whole article is gushing in praise for her, all sunshine and rainbows, and even a suggestion that she was actually doing the right thing avoiding all those nasty men:
"My role as a Muslim woman is to be a housewife or to get a job working with other women. Working with men is not really a good thing for a Muslim woman."

    Practically a feminist icon.

    Contrast that with Khalid Kelly

He was too much of a pompous and puffed up little popinjay of a character to go off and do something like this. Way, way, way too self-important a person. So I can only conclude that something major must have happened.

Now maybe (in fact certainly) Kelly was as described, but could you imagine something similar being said about someone like Lisa Smith, or any female criminal in 2019? And make no mistake she is a reprehensible criminal. At least Kelly blew himself up for the "cause".

What crime is she alleged to have committed?

What crime is she alleged to have committed?

She's detained in Syria on suspicion of being an Isis supporter.

The press, politicians and law enforcement will go extremely easy on her when she eventually hits the old sod - you can tell already. The OP is right, the public is being softened up. If this was a male, the press would be going in far harder on him.

A flaxen-haired Irish cailín, led astray by curiosity and the charms of an exotic foreigner. She needs a warm cup of tae and a hug from her mammy.

She's a fascist and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Ex-Army office and Security expert on Newstalk Breakfast this morning said it was likely she hadn't broken any Irish laws.

He said it wasn't illegal to travel to Isis controlled areas but that the government should make it illegal.

No thanks. There's a thread open on the topic.
