Audi A4 stuttering while idle query

    Question
In the past few days by 2010 Audi A4 has started shaking / stuttering while sitting idle. The Rev indicator continues to flicker (previously wouldn’t move when idle)
Once I rev the car or start to drive the shaking / stuttering stops.

Also when driving for the first time in the morning there will be a drop off in power after about 30 seconds. The car doesn’t cut out but there is a distinct pause of power for about a second then back to normal

Any ideas from the limited info above?

Possibly injector issue. God only knows really, get it to a mechanic is the only answer.

2 litre turbo only producing 120BHP? Really?

probably the EGR as already said. check if you plant the accellerator, does the rev needle rise very slowly. IF so EGR might need cleaning,

Yes, most of the Irish A4s were 120. Not as slow as it sounds but not fast either.

Cheers - I have it booked in for Friday.
If it is just the EGR needed cleaning is there any risk driving it for the rest of the week?

You could clean it yourself and save a load of money. Here is the video link how to remove it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndY9o-Eu49k Installation are the revers process. For cleaning solution you can use the carburetor cleaner or anything what solves the carbon.

    nice one - thanks.
I'll definitely take a look at cleaning it myself - at least if that doesn't solve the problem I know I have something worse going on that requires the visit to the garage

after running the diagnostic this morning the message came back referencing fuel pressure (Didn't get the full message)
The guy in the garage said he will order a fuel pressure sensor to see if that fixes the issue.

Does it sound right the a sensor acting up would result in the engine shaking, stuttering and burning through fuel?

The fuel pressure sensor gets the weird readings if your fuel filter are clogged. Did he checked the real pressure by manometer or just guessing?

    How that EGR cleaning goes?

He just plugged in the diagnostic tool and the fuel pressure was the only item that came back.
I brought it to a local guy that was recommended so didn't get a chance to even go looking at the EGR.
I did mention that could be the issue but don't think that was taken on board. I wouldn't really know anything about engines so have to take this guy on face value

It does not means instantly the sensor are bad. I seen "bad sensor" cars where sensor was actually good. The simple manometer test can proof the real pressure readings. Yes it makes the hands dirty and generate little mess. This sensor are bit expensive too, over 30eur (on Ireland 70-100eur)

He should have the part available in the next couple of days - if he changes the sensor and there is no different in performance I wont have to pay for the sensor and the investigation continues.
From reviewing the video around cleaning the EGR it is definitely something I could do
