    Hi folks

I'm on an invalidty pension payment and my wife is on the claim as a QA.

It has been suggested to us that she should look and possibly going on carers as it's unlikely I'll be returning to work anytime and will need someone there with me.

What is the protocol for applying?
Will I need to supply doctors reports, medicals and that to apply or can they make the decision based on me been on IP and her been a QA

    Thanks

You need to complete application form, and get your doctor to complete medical. Only if caring for under 16s you don't complete medical for carers

Have a look at the application form, it's in 3 Sections.

She fills in the first Section as well providing the key information in the Care Report which is part of Section 3. She will need to provide details of the extent of the care that she provides to you on a daily basis. One way of doing that is by providing details of the care given in the form of a daily/weekly diary.

Section 2 is about you and you need to sign it.

The second half of Section 3 must be handed to your GP for completion - be sure to sign the consent bit before giving it to him/her.

Note that if she's getting a QA payment then she'll only be eligible for half-carers.
