These days it is not worth the hassle. Tens of years ago we did it, because we did not had the other options. These days better look the used engine (same mounting to the body and gear box) and swap it. It is really hard to make a adapter between different engine and different gearbox. Possible but not worth it. Even if you using the entire unit (different engine and gearbox matched together) then you end difficulties to mount it and you need to completely rebuild the wiring harness and compile the old and new prop shaft. If you have a load of time, go ahead. Yes, load of good emotions about the car can save it from junkyard.

Thanks for the reply. But no I'd no intention of making adapter plates ect. I'm just wondering might they be a straight drop in replacement. A friend even has a 04 mazda 6 1.8 that is going to scrap and was wondering might that drop in. As I know alot of the mazda petrol engines were shared with ford, and volvo I think.

Ford have a terrible catalogue but may be we have a luck to compare these 2 cars. Give to me the VIN numbers. No promises, like I said the ford documentations are terrible.

Id say if you were able to source a 2.0 engine from a Mazda 6 from the same year then you should be able to swap them however 2.0 petrol mazda engines are probably as scarce as Mondeos. Best bet is to try breakers up the North (traynors etc )
