    I'm just wondering I've been working a little over a year with a company working under 20hours a week.. I'm going on maternity leave in the middle of June i was unemployed in 2017 after finishing maternity leave so i was getting JSA I'm just wondering will i be entitled to maternity benefit in June even if i wasn't working in 2017

    Yes you will qualify. If you have 39 contributions in the 12 months immediately before your maternity leave starts then that’s enough.

    To Qualify you only need one of the following:

    At least 39 weeks of PRSI paid in the 12-month period before the first day of your maternity leave

    Or

    At least 39 weeks of PRSI paid since first starting work and at least 39 weeks of PRSI paid or credited in the relevant tax year or in the tax year immediately following the relevant tax year. For example, if you are going on maternity leave in 2018, the relevant tax year is 2016 and the year following that is 2017.
    Or

    At least 26 weeks of PRSI paid in the relevant tax year and at least 26 weeks PRSI paid in the tax year immediately before the relevant tax year. For example, if you are going on maternity leave in 2018, the relevant tax year is 2016 and the year before that is 2015.

    So I think you would qualify under the first requirement.
