No unfortunately, no logbook or old disc or number plates. Tried with a local main dealer but told it's not possible. It's just a body shell at the minute, as it was broken for spares but I am looking at the idea of putting ot back together

Without previous owner you can not to do almost anything. If the car are scrapped then may be only the previous owner can restore it. I once did it but not in Ireland. Honestly it is hard process, especially if the previous owner are dead. Much easier are to buy 2nd similar car and use the 2nd car body. That 2nd car body makes it legal. You can swap any part between these 2 cars, only the body must be the 2nd car one. Yes there are the engine number too but when they ever check that number?

It should be possible, unless the car in question is very old...
Go to a main dealership. Ask them to check the chassis number on their dealer portal system. The chassis number should tell them warranty/build details, and at the very least the dealership to which the car was first registered, in which case they should have the details on record.
If they say it's not possible, tell them that the car gets a chassis number BEFORE it's registered, so follow the trail...
    Manufacturer.....Country.....Dealership.....Registration....Customer.

What make and model is it ?

Have a look at the windows, registration number may be etched into them.
