i have posted a few times over the last few months about my quest for a new car for my other half.

she is moving from a 07 tiida automatic.

my head is totally melted trying to figure out the best option.

    1. buy a more expense marque car eg a A4/A6 but is older 2010 / 2011 and higher mileage

    OR

    2. lesser marque brand but would be newer car with dealer warranty and much less miles eg, megane ]

both would be same kind of money.

she is not that pushed on the car itself, so no help there.

    any thoughts

I'd get something new with a good warranty

that's where my head was going last night... 2 years dealer warranty versus none in a private sale / 3 month engine gearbox job.

Surely there is more to this than just brand. What size does she want? Are rear seats and boot space important? I presume it has to be an automatic? What kind of mileage does she cover? In fact I would think brand is the least of your interest here.

Figure out what size car you want first, small or medium hatchback? Or maybe a crossover? If larger then you have larger saloons. Once you have an idea here you can narrow it down further. Does she cover much mileage? Is it city or motorway type driving? This will help decide on whether you want a diesel or not. Perhaps a hybrid would work well? Etc etc.

ok so space is important, rear seats need to fold or an estate, this will be for carrying chairs, tables etc. and has to be an automatic, tax up to about 570 would be ok and mileage is mostly motorway to work with some local trips in between.

budget is dictating the whole thing at the moment. brand / badge does not really come into it but the safety net of a warranty is the draw.

So what is the budget here? Something like a Skoda Superb would probably do the job. But tbh, the requirements are a bit mad. I almost feel like I should be recommending a van!

A Kia or a Hyundai is where you should be looking if you want a good warranty. A Kia Cee'd estate maybe or a Hyundai i30 estate or the bigger i40 estate all good looking cars and as Kia's come with 7 year warranty's from new depending on what year you buy there will still be warranty on it so even if it was 4 years old you would still have a 3 year warranty on the car. The Hyundai' s come with 5 year warranty from new so might not be as much left on a second hand one of them depending on the year you go for.
Another alternative would be the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. It a big car but second hand ones should still have some warranty as Mitsubishi's these days come with 8 year warranty's.

So loads of choice just depend what size you want and how much you want to pay.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
