    How do you have yours?

Personally, not too thick and not too thin. Then sugar and lemon.

Without fail the first one I make turns out crap and is given to the dogs. After that, they’re perfect. I never measure the ingredients either just go by consistency.

Thick, covered in sugar and lemon juice. Now why does that sound dirty? :P

Alternatively slipping a kinder bar in there is heaven *drools*

Thin or medium thickness with just sugar

    Or nutella and chopped walnuts!

Yeah that last bit sounds waaaaay dirtier ;)

Thin, with Nutella and strawberries for my first first choice, then lemon and sugar. If I get them in a cafe it's always with maple syrup and bacon.

I don't bother. I mean they're not great, are they? We wouldn't just have them once a year if they were all that.

I'm gonna have talk in generalisations here because sure individuals will break the following.

Today you'll hear people gushing on about them, buying up all the ingredients for them etc etc. The majority of these people will not touch one until next year after today. If they were all that, it'd be a standard staple.

I flip, I don't toss, tossing is for amatuers and bedrooms.

Yeah, BB. You need to post a video so we can decide if you’re a flipper or tosser.

Pancakes are at minimum bi-weekly on the weekend in my house... weekly if feeling in a good mood as its great as a treat post GAA or Football for the kids.

Hard to beat the traditional lemon and caster sugar. But orange juice is very nice too.

Also, grand with rashers. A whole meal of pancakes.

PS I think Nutella is too smooth, bland and sweet to make a good foil for pancakes. A bit of contrast rocks my world.

Is today Shrove Tuesday? I've heard hardly anything about it this year.

Always thought it was in February.

Not sure if I have the energy to shrive today. Where does good pancakes in the city centre?

It’s the day before the start of lent which is 40 days before Easter. The earliest I remember is feb 12th or so.

It is. I have never worked out (cos I’ve never bothered to find out) why Easter isn’t on the same date every year.

Shrove Tuesday is meant to be the day that you get rid of food ready for fasting for lent. If I were to make a pancake filling with the contents of my fridge I would have -

    Babybell
    Sun dried tomatoes
    Ham
    Beetroot

Home made pancakes (non of the pre-mixed / pre-made sh1te) with good quality chocolate and strawberries. Or just plain old lemon and sugar.

"We" don't just have them once a year though, they're a regular enough weekend breakfast for "us"

First one is always sacrificial - it always has a faint taste of onions in my house, so the crows get it!

After that it's thick, blackcurrant jam (and only blackcurrant - no exceptions) and jif lemon, piled high enough to guarantee stomach cramps - fúck it, it's worth it, they won't kill you!

Us too, my boyfriend is Dutch so we have pancake Tuesday once a week, usually on a Saturday.

On another note, you should see Dutch people's faces when I explain to them we celebrate "Carnaval" with pancake Tuesday. Google it, it's quite a spectacle :D

Yeah why is the first one always a gonner? Have never figured it out. Impatience to get going and not letting the pan get fully hot maybe?

    That...... or the onions:D

Either way, it's written into the fabric of spacetime - first one is a no no, We're not built to understand!

Yep, the pan needs to be at a decent heat, also, letting the mix sit for a bit longer helps the consistency.
Put it in the fridge for 5 minutes before cooking as well.

Pancakes every week as part of Sunday fry up with rashers and soft fried eggs piled on top.
Dessert tonight, apple and cinnamon pancakes for me, banana pancakes with light toffee sauce for my other half.

Pancakes are usually a weekly affair at home, not since the beginning of the year though as I have been up to my eyes.

I love the lemon and sugar. Found it unusual when I first moved to Ireland. I was used to chocolate syrup and whipped cream.
On a weekend at home we would usually have it with bacon and maple syrup but today it will probably be lemon and sugar.

So it's a bag of instant pancake mix, that's a perfectly normal produ...

yep, it's basically a very small, very expensive bag of flour.

I tried to make pancakes once and they turned out like scrambled eggs so I'll have to see if anyone takes pity on me today and makes me pancakes :D

Also, no arguing in the pancake thread. This is why we can't have nice things!

The flour is a bit different to regular flour....but yeah, bit of marketing voodoo going on there.

I like my pancakes fairly non-fancy. Sugar in the mix, but not added afterwards. Just butter and maybe a bit of lemon. Definitely nowt savoury.
It is. I have never worked out (cos I’ve never bothered to find out) why Easter isn’t on the same date every year.
Well obviously, Easter is on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the 21st of March. Thought everyone knew that! :p So the earliest Easter can be is March the 22nd, meaning the the earliest Pancake Tuesday can be is February the 3rd.

Did they stick to the pan? Maybe you need to get a new one. I have one reserved specifically for pancakes, crepes or Venezuelan cachapas. It's hidden away too so nobody is tempted to use them.
Alternatively SuperValu freshly made ones are lovely too. Had them yesterday.

'Omelette' style, where lots of fruits and berries are thrown into the batter.

Or plain, with strawberries and whipped cream wrapped inside.

Like them a little on the thick side, Lemon and sugar on top. Can't beat it.

Had a test batch yesterday, first one was a disaster... had to bin it, ended up like a manhole cover.

Eh, failure to communicate lets say....

    The rest were the job.

Looking forward to a stack of these later on.

Managed to avoid the poor excuse for pancakes that were provided in the work canteen earlier.

    Lemon and sugar for me.

Kenwood Mixer, I just bunged the whole lot in, 10 mins later nice silty smooth batter, no lumpy bits.
