im looking for recomendations on a tractor for 30k , thats my budget. it needs to agitate tank a few times a year thats the hardest thing. some people say 100 hp will barely agitate a tank , would 100 hp be ok? very nearly bought a new holland t60-10 there a few days ago, but it was just too much out of my buget would have left me under too much pressure they were looking for 38k

By all means get a tractor, will do loads of things. But for 100-110hp, I would get someone in to agitate.

What size tank have you? That determines the size of agitator you need, which will decide the tractor size...

There was a guy around here used to agitate his tanks with a ford 6600 - 80hp?

Here we hire in the contractor to agitate the tank and put the slurry out ourselves. No bother to get someone to agitate, only takes an hour or so even in busy periods,

    My choice MF 5455..

a case 656 , hard enough to get someone when you need them, two or three times i was let down and lads wanting to come to put slurry out when others wouldnt want them if ground got wet. be nice to have the option of agitating if i got a window

    Case cs110 or cs94. Or 5130.

We mixed for years with a 290 and 398 Massey.

    Why so?
I know of a 5612 locally here that has had a new crown and pinion in the back axle and also a new 4wd tra sfer box. Less than 2500 hours. All brands and models get an ods lemon but it would turn me off of buying one.

I think the last of the 4 pot perkins engines used by MF had the cylinders very close together and gave problems, I'm not a MF expert though;)

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Seven brand new 5455s came to this parish in 2007 and have been sound enough to be fair. None would have a hard life though

You're choice of agitator might be as important as the tractor you choose... Some of them are harder driven than others. I have a Hi-Spec here, and 80hp works it no problem. 100 - 110hp will be fine for your own work.

Have a 5460 here. Will agitate and pump slurry at its ease. Loader permanently on her. Absolutely trouble free. Will agitate in 540e box. Misery on diesel

so lads your saying most 100hp tractors will agitate slurry easy, as long as the slurry is watery i know, yrying to get in pig slurry , hopefully this wet spell will have it easy got up here

100hp will have no issue mixing slurry. I often stick the agitator here on an old ih 885 when the other tractor is being used. It doesn’t need to be any softer than what it should be for any agitator it might just take a bit longer. Of course a 200 hp will take a bigger output agitator and do it in shorter time but 80hp plus will do the same just not as fast but it won’t cost the earth either.
