Damp Query

    Ok.

Damp has appeared in one corner of the room on the wall thats the semi detached side of the Main Bedroom 2 storey house, this is the second floor . This is an ensuite room.

The ensuite doesn't have an extractor fan and we just put on a dehumidifier after the shower use.

The room has external vent that's the opposite side of the room where the damp is appearing.

Any particular reason why the damp is appearing there, the house has walls pumped and attic insulation installed a while back. A lot of condensation appears on the double glazed windows every morning.

looking to paint but would like to get the damp sorted first.

No issues in any other room

Any ideas suggestions on how to fix the issue.

Sounds like an imbalance somewhere in your heating / ventilation / moisture load.
    1. Can you post a picture or two of the damp?
    2. Is the window condensation on a lot of the windows of the house? Through the whole winter/heating season?
    3. What "improvements" have you recently had done in the house (e.g. upgrade open fire to stove)?
When was the insulation upgraded? Is there a correlation?

Put an extractor fan in the en-suite.

Open the window at night in rooms people are sleeping in
(Ensure adequate ventilation in every habitable room)

    Paint: bandage
Mould: lack of heat, ventilation, cold surface(insulation)

    1. Picture here, i cleaned it up since. https://img.frl/ha550

    2. its just on the ensuite and the main bedroom , that has condensation,

    3. Improvements since i bought the house.

Walls pumped, attic insulation done. no damp issues.

about 3 years ago i fitted a stove replacing an open fire.

all the rooms have the standard vents.

    thanks for the help.

Have you checked attic for any signs of a leak.

Heard on Matt cooper todayFm DCC tenants are complaining of mound growth etc, they are being told exactly what you said BryanF. Some fella was on, not sure could of been a counseller and some girl who is doing her PHD on this. They said it’s not acceptable that tenants should be opening windows etc.

Stick in a dehumidifier and see how you get on. But really you need to ventilate more

It is down to people to figure out how to deal with it. Even with the newest most up to date houses will get very bad mold if there is no regular maintenance. I don't think Mannix Flynn knows what he is talking out.

    PHD in fcuk-wittery id imagine......

Of course you have to open windows, openable windows are required by building regulation for purge ventilation.

    idiots gonna idiot.....

I've never heard such a load of bullsh!t in my life. Maybe they shouldn't be expected to have to open the front door to get in and out of the house either? And what about the ignomy of having to press the handle on the jacks after defacating in it. Should they have to flush it after them?

As Syd says - ventilation is the reason why windows are openable in the first place! Part of living in a house is using it appropriately. Be if flushing toilets, opening windows and doors, hoovering the carpet, etc. etc.
