Have a problem with my oil burner, It will light but then trips after 10 seconds. Thought it was the photocell, however if I let it light and take the photocell out in the normal light the burner will not trip out. Replaced the photocell but no difference. It's like there isn't enough light getting to it. Anyone got any ideas??? I've cleaned everything out.Could it be the control box?

What burner? Have you removed the burner head? Are the symptoms exactly the same with old and new cell?

Yes the symptoms are the exact same. Didn't remove the burner head but I cleaned around it. Wasn't that dirty. The make is vestfosbox model eurotone. Came with the house when I moved in.

It needs a proper professional service as your symptoms indicate a bad flame pattern.
Easy enough for an experienced oil service Engineer to sort, and it will make boiler safer and better fuel consumption.

    As Tom 44 wrote then

Btw is vestfosbox the name of the boiler or burner? I haven't come across them

It's the make of the burner, nobody seems to know the brand. I've attached a photo. Just wondering would it be cheaper to just get a new burner?? What is a bad flame pattern, a bad nozzle or a bad ratio of air + fuel?

It’s caused by one or more of a number of things. Wrong burner head, wrong nozzle, electrode adjustment, fuel to air mixture, pump pressure etc.

A good tech with gauges and a flue gas Analyser and a knowledge of the boiler output should be able to set it up to run correctly. Certainly that would be my first port of call.

    Eurotone burner

Difficult to tune up, air adjustment which is the screw above that round lable has a tendency to jam internally.
    Plastic electrodes prone to cracking.
High carbon monoxide due to old design.
BHO 11-12 Box is probably faulty, or photocell.
Rarely do I see them anymore.

    Burner is about 1982 vintage

I'd change boiler & burner if boiler is that old too.
Firebirds used them for a while.
