My housemate hit a parked car while reversing.

She panicked and left, when she returned to say sorry a Garda pulled her over and took her details. She’s to go to Garda station tomorrow.

What are implications legal wise? She will pay for damages but is there a chance she’ll lose her license?

She came back to the scene so I can't see her being in much trouble. She needs to make sure that the injured party gets sorted with cash or an insurance claim and if that's the case, the Gardai probably won't pursue it.

For a material damage accident where the owner of the damaged car is not present, there is an obligation to go to the Garda station to report it so driving away from the scene is not in and of itself a crime. That is to say, her defence can be that she was driving to report it. Though she probably already admitted to the Garda who pulled her over that she panicked and drove off.

Highly unlikely she will lose her licence for a fender bender where she panicked and left but came back. Even if she's prosecuted, which I think is unlikely.

UPDATE: I rang guards, he pissed she drove off, but happy if we can sort it out between 3rd party and housemate for damages that it’ll go no further, probably without court summons.

Very lucky to have not caused another accident, they’ll have to be more careful!
