Hi guys, after a lot of job applications/interviews I have finally gotten a job. So very happy as I have been a mature student for the last few years and dying to get back to work.
Now comes my problem, what happens next? I am currently on BTEA as I am in fourth year for the honours degree. I expect that the payment will stop as I start work Monday. But it's a monthly wage so will have no income until end of march. My savings are long gone and I live week to week, so how do I get through the next month?
Also, how long do you keep a medical card for after starting work, the wages are good so I would not pass a means test but it will take time to find my feet and arrange private health care.
Anything else i am forgetting? incredibly excited to be working again but worried about the next few weeks.

Citizens information website might help you with that, other than that I dunno.

Tell them that you are starting work and your BTEA will be stopped. You should then apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance which if you have no other income you will get until you are paid from work. Get a letter from your job showing that you will not be paid until March. You will not have to refund this payment as it is to help you till you receive your wages. Hope this helps and good luck in your new job.
