Job Interview & Application Feedback Public Sector

    Hi All,

Just want to know the normality within public sector in terms of responses to interviews and job applications.

Recently i went for a job interview with a local ETB office for Assistant Principle Officer. Before i went for the interview i was told i was going up against someone who was temporarily already in the position. The interview went great got good marks but failed to make the panel. The area i fell down on was the actual expertise, knowledge and personal development. (this area is something i perform daily basis in the private sector on procurement and contractual basis in both private and public contracts) You required 80 or over to get on the panel i got 79.5. When i queried the decision i was told by the respective HR department the decision on the day was final and no further feedback will be given. Just found it very cold and not in line with there own core values for integrity and transparency.

In another recent application this time with the EPA, i received a letter saying i was unsuccessful in making the shortlisting stage. The application was competency based, the shortlisting was based on markings against each competency and you had to get over a certain mark to be considered. In the response letter there was no marks against each of these competency which again doesn't seem transparent. I have requested for further feedback but not feeling confident of a response.

Just wondering what peoples experience have been with this process? Or is my niavity of expecting feedback to further develop too much?
