THIEVES WHO VANDALISED a crypt in Dublin have stolen the head of an 800-year-old mummy known as The Crusader.
The discovery at the crypt of St Michan’s Church on Church Street was made shortly before lunchtime today when a guide was preparing to open the church for visitors.

The Church of Ireland said the crypt had been “badly damaged” and several of the mummies inside, including the 400-year-old remains of a nun, had been desecrated. The Crusader’s body was turned over and his head had been removed.

Seriously, who does something like this? Sick.

I work nextdoor. When I was walking past at 4 I saw a locksmiths van leaving.

From the window of my building I've seen paramedics resussicating people who have overdosed in the graveyard at the back. Smithfield is lovely but there's quite a few unsociable elements there and it's easy to gain access to the church grounds.

If it was indeed a Crusader, I'd say he removed a few heads himself during his lifetime.

Me too, it's a real hidden gem. And the Crusader is one of the main attractions.
