    Hi All ,

OK i just looking for other opinions of this , I had my 6 month probation meeting the other day and was asked how i thought i was doing i said OK and still learning but loving the job , my boss turned around and just said we think you are struggling , i really do not think i am , and i have not made any mistakes in the actual job itself , i may have sent a wrong attachment in an email or typed something wrong but the actual job i have not and i actually feel like i am doing a good job , anyway they went over housekeeping rules ie no long breaks and dress code and all that which is fine and i am doing that , but they said look we are extending your probation by 3 months , well to say i was gob smacked is an understatement , i couldn't even reply to them i just said ok .
now my boss was also off for 2 months when i started i was only 2 weeks into the job and then he was gone.
They told me look we do care about our staff and said for me not to take anything negative from the meeting ( how can i not ) and that not to worry nearly everyone gets an extended probation that 5 months in this job is not enough time to get into the job and learn everything .
So i went home a broken person never in my years working have i failed probation not been told i am struggling , I have been approached by another job and wondering do i now work on egg shells here hoping i do not make a mistake ? or do i take this as maybe i should look for another job ?
i like the place and the staff , but felt bit blindsided by the review and worried now that im just being held onto .
    Thanks sorry for long post

Employees own their probation as much as the employers do.

Either side letting probation go to the end without a midway update is madness.

If a manager isn’t scheduling a midway meeting the employee should be requesting it to see somehow how things are going.

You are where you are now, knuckle down, I’d definitely be asking for an update meeting half way through the extension.

Doing this shows people your serious and they will be less likely to dick you about.

You posted this 4 days ago.

    Serious question:

Can you not remember posting this?

Is it possible you are making these sorts of mistakes in your job?

yes they just said to like check my work twice and make sure i read an email before i send it , they also said they will sit me in a few weeks to see how things are going .

I wouldn't mind but i had sat with my boss ( and his boss ) last month and he said we hope your liking it here and we think you are doing good , so this is how i can not understand where they think i am struggling and how this all came to light in the space of 3 weeks , i have done nothing majorly wrong done a typo in email or sent wrong attachment in an email , just felt it was a bit of a harsh set back for the ''mistakes '' i have made .

I felt like i did not explain the situation correctly in my first post hence the reason for putting up a new post regarding this issue .

and for the record no this is not what i am doing in my job thank you for shedding light on something i have not put in my post ! .

    Take the other job.

It is the lowest risk strategy right now.

Why stay somewhere you're walking on egg shells?

    Oooh, edgy....

Op, try out the new job, your current employer sounds horrible.

Op, if sending emails is part of your job I have some bad news for you... Your grammar and writing skills are fairly poor and not the standard most businesses would expect from their employees.

edit: just went through your old posts and saw you have some anxiety issues, and that's your reason for leaving your last job.

So some friendly advice. 1. Don't catastrophise this setback. 2. Don't repeat past mistakes. This particular area of work may not suit you.

There are a couple of things I wouldn't do because no job is worth the stress:
    Accept an extended probation
    Accept going on a PIP

Both of those are invitations to the door imo.

This is a bit flippant for my liking, and may be part of the issue.

Sending a wrong attachment or a wrong email is a mistake in the actual job. It could have GDPR or commercial implications - imagine someone asks for a copy of their contract and you send someone else's. Or imagine you send a price quote of E10/unit instead of E15/unit. If these issues are regular - and by the way you've written the above, I get the feeling they've happened more than once - then I could absolutely understand probation being extended.

In that case, your approach should be to try acknowledge and understand the issue, not shirk from it ("I may have sent a wrong attachment" - you either did or you didn't). Mistakes happen; how you respond to them is key.

If almost everyone fails probation it sounds like a shambles of a place or you are working for some elite organisation. They have a duty too to help new hires and have written procedures and plans. If these don't exist maybe you can write them?

Sending an incorrect attachment is a big issue as you've affected two parties not just one. If AIB send your bank statement to me I'll be wondering where mine is gone. Mistakes happen but maybe there is frustration with your bosses on how you reacted.

Ah heyor, posters add this often in this forum. Everyone here understood the OP so job done. Boards would be full of please be advised if we wrote like work. I definitely don't write here like I do in work

Well im sure they have several instances they're keeping an eye on if youve gotten extended probation

I think you should take that other job and get out of there. You're lucky to have that option because I think you're on the slippery slope in there.

As other people have already pointed out, your spelling and grammar are quite poor. Having read a couple of your posts, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it as the "Ah sure, how people write on boards is different from how they type up work emails". We're not in the "odd typo" territory here. Going by the comment about checking your work twice and making sure you read an email before you send it, they are concerned about what you're doing here. It's unlikely to be simply about you attaching the wrong files or sending things to the wrong recipients.
