Tanking a shower area question

    Hi folks
    Im currently in the process of installing a shower instead of a bath in an upstairs bathroom,its going on a plywood floor and against 2 stud walls.I know I have to tank from the shower tray upwards but what about under the tray???Is there a need to tank under it or does it just sit on a bed of mortar??

    if fitting a classi seal or sealux seal,the tanking kit overlaps the seal and fitted upwards,not under the tray

    Thanks for the replies. One more question, the plumber has said he wants to lay the tray on sawdust rather than sand/cement, is this common practice??? Seems unusual.
