Have just starting doing 5k Park runs.
Rather than go blindly into a sports shop.
Any suggestions or advice on getting appropriate footwear

That is a big question tbh as different runners suit different people. Even amongst the brands there would be a range of runners. I wear Brooks Ghost for example which I have been happy with for some time. I also have another model of brooks that I couldn't wear running.

How serious are you planning on taking it and what's your budget? If you plan on really getting into it then it's worth going to a specialist so they can advise on what's best for your foot shape and running style and let you try different styles out on a treadmill.

If you just want something to get started then can't go too far wrong with a pair of New Balance or Kayanos.

It really is worth going to a specialist retailer if possible though imo.

Could pay 2 or 3 hundred euro if necessary.
Initially my thinking is on just something comfortable that suits my running style although not with the intention of being ultra competitive.
Main thing is that I won’t get injuries wearing the wrong runners and can run efficiently.

If you're willing to spend that much then definitely go to an expert. No point spending that much and just ending up with an expensive fashion runner! If you're in Dublin theres a few options to go to.

Personally I would hold off going to an expert until you have been running for 6 months or so. A few parkruns does not really warrant the level of outlay you are suggesting. If the runners you have are comfortable enough then stick with them short term.
If you keep up the running then you can start investing in it more. Talk to the other parkrunners about their kit. Some of the longer term runners can give you good advice.

    Few options here:

A decent pair of runners are normally good for about 500 miles so if you've already got a reasonable pair then I'd probably do as pawwed rig says and ask around for some tips and use what you have. Over the years I've seen many people all full of enthusiasm and new gear in jan/Feb only for it to be at the back of the wardrobe for eternity come May. It's worth giving it a few months to make sure it's something you do actually enjoy before spending too much.

Run Hub, Run Zone, Amphibian King are all good running shops that carry a good range and where you'll get good advice.
Try on a few pairs, go for a bit of a jog around the shop, see what feels right.

I’d avoid Kayanos like the plaque. Way overpriced and it’s the first shoe recommended to beginners, probably for that reason.

I've had good experiences with Run Hub and Amphibian King.

Run Hub now have a new city centre location on Aungier Street which is handy.

As mentioned above, if you're willing to spend that much on runners, DEFINITELY get gait analysis. Otherwise it's a false economy.

Important to note also to get gait analysis done every 12-18 months as running gait can change over time (something I never really considered).

Hi Folks, looking to but a new pair of runners on Saturday in Dublin.

Are Run Hub and Amphibian King the two best places to check out? Oh and should i pre book for a gait analysis?

They are good places to go.

You don't need to pre book, but you might have to wait a few minutes while they deal with someone else, especially during the busy period in the afternoon. You can always call and check
