Looking for opinions, I will be buying one of these vehicles in tbe next few weeks. They are both 1.0 petrol, similar horse power. Differnce in price is +3.5k for the honds. I like both, i love the colour of the focus (Ruby red) and the shape, i like everything about to be honest. It felt more responsive in tbe test drive ( weight?), i wasnt as excited about the civic saloon, yet i feel i am leaning towards it as my choice, anybody got either? Or just an opinion? Reliability?, im assuming tbey would be similar, what aboit resale value aftet 4 years, thanks in advance to everyone for their help. ( it will deffo be one of those models & spec)

I’ve heard bad things about the reliability of the 1.0 Honda, it’s also a bit overpriced in my opinion, so if it were a straight choice between the two, I’d reluctantly take the Ford.
I don’t think resale on either of them will be anything special. Used old model Civics are currently making strong money, but I can’t see the new model being very in demand once the supply catches up and the novelty wears off.

He has zero complaints with it,

The Honda has a lot more as standard compared to the Focus. Honda Sensing for example. The 1.0 Civic engine doesn’t sound great but does like to be revved and handles extremely well but is very low down. Haven’t driven the new Focus so I can’t comment but I just know that you have to either up the trim level or tick boxes to get extras.

Resale value on a Ford after 4 years is never going to be great. Also go to Google and type in Ford EcoBoost Engine Failure just to be up to scratch and in the know about possible engine issues.

Focus holds its value pretty well to be fair,
And that ecoboost issue in the 1.0 has been resolved, that issue was in earlier models.

Seen a new Focus in that red yesterday. It looked great. The Honda is a nice car too just don't think its 3.5k nicer. Buy the car you want and like the best. Sure the Honda might be worth a bit more down the line but it will also cost more in the first place.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I feel like i want the (perceived) quality of the honda. I have previously owned 2 fiestas, both from new, never reakly had any bad issues with either, owned both for 5 years. Thats my ford experience. Ive never iwned a honda. My sensible self says honda, but i live the look of tbe focus. Like has been said, the resale will probably be similar in comparison. No sat nav in the ford, reading rrviews on line some saying honda infotainment is rubbish compared to the ford. I think if i hadnt seen the focus in tbat colour i’d have plumped for tbe civic, which is realky stupid, having a car colour sway ones decision, tbe interior of tbe ford is more vibrant and sporty even, tbe civic in my eyes is more mature, if that makes sense. I think think vectra is right about the ecoboost issue. Thanks again everyone for the replies.

Built in Sat Nav on brand new cars is old hat now, the systems are usually not good to begin with and manufacturers can charge an arm or leg for updated maps. You should be looking for cars with Apple Carplay and Android Auto where you can use Google or Apple maps from your phone. That's all you need.

The focus st line comes with 6.5” SYNC 3 with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay as standard!

And the sync3 works perfectly on carplay.

Both cars have apple and android connectivity. The ford audio upgrade (b&o) comes with sat nav (only 360ish extra and 600+ watts, tbe ford guy reckons id have to wait 8 weeks if i want tbat upgrade in colour stated

Don't know if id be too convinced of the issue being resolved. The entire ecoboost range of engines have been plagued with issues.

Would you consider a new Corolla? They're surprisingly nice

Google Ford Ecoboost problems then decide

The new Corolla is a different car altogether, looks really good. I do think the new Focus hatch with the right wheels looks really great though.

Why not go with the Civic hatch? More engine and spec options inc a lovely 180bhp petrol

OP will have more choices in this segment later in the year. New models of the Mazda 3, VW Golf, Seat Leon and Skoda Octavia are all being launched towards the end of this year.

Thanks everyone, I bit the bullet and went with the civic saloon.

Excellent handling, loves to be revved, I like the look of them too and you're going to have a car that's very rare here.

Just a quick update, I love the saloon, I have not seen another one yet, seen a good few hatchbacks alright. Anyway since getting the civic have seen a gazillion (cannot confirm precise number) focus st lines. No complaints so far with the civic finding the lane assist a bit getting used too, and on the bog roads always getting the little shaker reminder in the steering wheel to hold on, I assume that is because there are no line markings for the car to see?. Anyone else on here have one?

Bought a hatchback there about 2 weeks ago.
1.0 turbo, 3 cylinder ~140 bhp, adaptive Cruise control, lane departure assist etc..
I absolutely love it...handles like it's on rails too!
The only gripe I have is that the front parking sensors go nuts when there's nothing in front...?
Read online this is a known issue, but will be calling the dealer anyway.

I have the button (Down low right of steering wheel) turned off on mine.

Just turn on then on steering wheel button when needed. Otherwise drives me mad also on country roads with no markings.
