McMillan had previously said that if by playing Casey v Leinster that it could cost him a place on the plane to Chicago that he wouldn't play him v Leinster. I think McMillan wants his players to get to play international rugby when they get the opportunities as it opens them up to a different coaching and playing environment. It also gives a recognition to the player/s.

While the timing isn't great it's great for Kleyn and without rehashing how Kleyn becoming NIQ it really is a shame that it's SA he's lining out for rather than having a few more caps for Ireland.

Fairly sure that during the international window we don't have a choice but to release international players. If not then as we are currently sitting 2nd in the table, only behind on points difference, so I imagine the thinking is this game isn't as important as say a knockout game later in the season

The last SA game is outside the international window. So no requirement on Munster to release any players.

This game isn't during the international window so no team are under any obligation to release players for it.

It makes sense for SA Japan based players (PSDT, moestert) to play this and not Kleyn.

As for the game being less important than a play off game, well obviously. But this isn't a 'zero sum' situation. Playing Kleyn against the stormers does not preclude him from playing in any play off game.

How much money does his club piss up a wall for PSDT to never play for them and be world class every time the Springboks tog out?

I think he had a slight thumb or finger injury.

Strong team and bench - Milne, Hodnett, Edogbo and Kelly will offer serious oomph off the bench also. Surprised to see Beirne playing (but happy, even if it's at 6 - he's had some great games there before for us)

Pretty fully loaded. Great to see Edogbo back on the bench:

Munster Rugby: Shane Daly; Diarmuid Kilgallen, Tom Farrell, Alex Nankivell, Thaakir Abrahams; Jack Crowley, Craig Casey; Jeremy Loughman, Diarmuid Barron, John Ryan; Tom Ahern, Fineen Wycherley; Tadhg Beirne (C), Jack O’Donoghue, Gavin Coombes.

Replacements: Niall Scannell, Michael Milne, Ronan Foxe, Edwin Edogbo, John Hodnett, Ethan Coughlan, Tony Butler, Dan Kelly.

About as stacked as one could expect.

As previously said, I'm surprised that Beirne is featuring, not to mind starting but I welcome his addition to the team. Great to see Edogbo back again, hopefully, he'll a decent run of games now.

I think they'll use Ospreys, Ulster and Dragons for rotation and resting the internationals.

If Farrell has any sense he'll change things up for the Six Nations, there could be some opportunities for players across the provinces to put their hands up that haven't featured before or haven't featured in a while.

Ahern, Edogbo, Daly, Kelly, Nash, Kilgallen, Hodnett, Milne, Loughman and Kendellen should all be chomping at the bit from a Munster POV. Coombes could be MOTM in every game until February and not get a look-in for whatever reason. Pity Gleeson is out, is he back for a run of games pre-6 Nations?

Gleeson expected back for either Leinster game or Ulster game

Enough time to show he's got similar form that had mgmt interested in him in the first place so all going well

Good to see Ahern at lock.

My gut is Beirne will play more at 6 this year for us & I'm ok with it when you see what we have in 2nd row in FW,Edogbo,Klyen,E oC & the option of moving Beirne there at a latter stage in a game if needed.

There's a real buzz around this team this year..long may they keep it goin

Is Craig Casey the only Limerick player on the team ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,198 ✭✭✭mun1

as most of them live and work in limerick, we consider them honarary limerick men , even the leinster ones :)

Nash being out is a loss and we missed him in the AIs too.

Is Haley still managing his game time since a HIA?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,238 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

Haley went off against Argentina with an ankle injury, but wasn't mentioned in this week's squad update, so I assume he just wasn't selected.

This is a box office squad announcement and a real statement of intent.

I wish I could go to the game this weekend. It will be epic.

as above we could have done with Nash, Haley back as the daly/Kilgallen/Abrahams pendulum is unknown in defence .

Starting pack looks decent but could do with one of salanoa/jager back on the pitch over next few matches

No sign of the stormers team ?

It's a Saturday game so they don't have to name their team until tomorrow.

Munster seem to have gone with naming their team earlier since McMillan took over. He also seems to like doing the media briefings when the team is announced

Surprised Beirne is included. Both because he was involved in the AI and also the guy looked tired against South Africa

Can’t say I recognise a whole lot of their team, Moerat, Roos and Gelant stick out, and Duvenage on the bench was good at Benetton but probably not as good anymore at 37 years of age now.

Is that a 6-2 bench from them?

Presume they have good forwards even if I don’t know them. Anyone know a bit about their 15/23 selected? Are they set up to play a forward dominated style and kick a lot?

hell of a lot of experience on that stormers bench

i hope those in the know have done a deep dive into connor evans genealogy to see if there's any chance of irish qualification there !! i know hes english qualified.
