    Hi,

    First decent car. 2014 BMW 318 D.

Came off fleet here in work, knew the driver and has a full main dealer service history.

    Now due a service.

Question is - do I continue to pay the main dealer service premium, does it add anything to the resale value if I want to change it in the next two years.

How much would I expect to pay for a standard service at the main dealer compared to a regular mechanic assuming its just an oil and filters change.

    cheers

The good service history are nice but it does not increase the car value. It only helps to sell the car faster, but you can not get hundreds or thousands euros more money. Better save the money and service DIY or on any garage. DIY is the cheapest options.

You can price main dealer service for your car using www.bmwservice.ie.

You can also avail of 20% off main dealer servicing by subscribing to www.bmw-first.ie/home. The first month is usually free and you can always sign up, get the discount for the servicing and then cancel afterwards within the trial period. Even the basic 4.95 per month offer is well worth keeping imo as it includes free wiper blade and bulb replacements too.

I found the above offers put main dealer service pricing very close to local BMW indy specialist pricing for my car plus you get to maintain the main dealer service history.

I wouldn't DIY service a car that new unless you plan on keeping it forever, having no service history on a car of that value would definitely harm its value over a similar car with a stamped service book and receipts.

Price around, main dealers are much more in line than they used to be, so you may get a good deal at one. If there isn't much in it, having a main dealer history is nice and you get some small perks like roadside assist, wash and vac etc that you wouldn't get at an independent. I don't think the BMW network is great outside Dublin though and there is nothing wrong with using a good independent at that age anyway if it suits you to do so.

Completely agree. Especially when the car has a full service history as it is.
