What Was Your First Proper Watch That You Bought Yourself?

Growing up in the 80s and 90s I'm sure I had many cheap digital watches. I know I also had some Casios such as the F-91W and the calculator watch. Nothing too remarkable though as the interest in watches hadn't really kicked in. At some point in the mid 00s I went to Argos I think it was and bought myself a Seiko, specifically the SNKH27:

It came in a lovely Seiko faux leather box and cost around €80 I think. I wore it every day for many years and at one point replaced the glass. Around a week after that, I fell off of a bicycle and scratched the fresh glass and it's been languishing in the watch box ever since. It's been unworn for far too long so the next thing on my list is to replace the glass....... again.

So what was yours and do you still have it?

First "proper" watch I bought was the Steinhart Ocean One in Black.

Had it on a Nato for ages and wasn't getting any wrist time. Changed back to the oyster strap last night and wearing it today :D

This was mine - PRS 516 bought for me by me in NYC. I like me! First auto. Still love it, can't see myself wanting to part with it.

Had a couple of cool digital watches when I was a kid and nice pulsar from Santa but the first real watch I bought was a Speedie - I went all in.

I was given a nice Seiko scuba divers watch but first one I bought myself was probably a vostok komandirskie. Other than the Seiko, I don't have a watch worth over €100, but happy with my collection of about 7 or 8 watches. I love watches, but can't justify big money on one.

My first proper watch was probably this Seiko, which is still going strong. That was bought for me, but I picked it. It's one of 2 watches I'd never sell.

My first mechanical was a very cheap hand-wound skeletal one from AliExpress. Quality was as you'd expect, but seeing the movement in action got me hooked. After that, a Steinhart OVM was my first good quality mechanical.

Tissot Quadrato, bought it 12 years ago for €465. Saw it in a magazine and loved it, got Weirs to order it in for me. Showing its age a little but still gets worn frequently like today

Requested the first few of my nice watches as presents. Not counting a few Casios etc I had as wee boy, the first 'proper' watch I bought for myself is my SXK009.

I was given a nice Fossil watch back in 2003. Then I got a G-Shock which was the first one I saved up and got for myself, think it was about €120 in Argos back in 2004. Then I said I'd treat myself after getting a new job the year after and bought an Armani watch (I know) then I went through the invicta stage for a few years (I know) then the Seiko watch phase which started with a Turtle SRP777 and then last September I bought a Rolex Explorer.

So the first proper watch I don't really know?

My first Automatic was an all black invicta diver which was actually a really nice watch and I really enjoyed. That would have back in around 2007/2008

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Tissot PR200 Quartz, sapphire crystal. Bought from Weirs' in 1996 for big money (many times the max I had spent on a watch before that, mainly Lorus, Casio, etc.) Herself bought it for me as an Xmas pressie, but I had to subsidise the purchase as it was out of her budget :D

Died a death and I sold it on adverts for €29 :)

My first proper watch after years of buying Swatch growing up was a Rolex Explorer. I wear it everyday and love how it goes under the radar.

I am getting one of my dream watches soon so this will be worn a little less.

What do you think of the 214270? And what's next in your next piece?

Really love it. It wasn't my first choice but due to availability and cash I got it. I feel you can wear it with anything where as a sub for example may look strange in some situations. It's also more discrete, all subjective but just the way I feel. Many pals have subs also.

The next one is 126710BLRO Pepsi GMT, all going well.

    Couple of nice eco drives.

First “expensive watch” was a colt 2 quartz. Miss it a little!

First was a gold Casio Analog/Digital combination bought about 1984 in Santa Ponza from a shop owned by Irish Johnnie, he did not look or sound very Irish!!

The got a Sector in 1991 from Weirs and though that I was the business!

The first “good” watch I bought myself was a Tissot PRS 516 Chronograph. I got it in 2005 in Lisbon. I still wear it but probably not as often as I should.
