I am considering switching my Bank to one that does not accept cash lodgements. Is there a way I can get my Jobseekers Allowance paid into my account or possibly by cheque to allow me to do this?

    No.

I think physically going to the post office once a week is an intended requirement to claiming JSA, in the same way signing once ever 4 weeks is.

    Correct.
The only way to receive JSA or JSB is in person unless you're on casual dockets. I think this rule came in when half of Poland missed their flights to sign on over the ash cloud in 2009/10

No. The only people who don’t get JS in the PO are those who work part time. You have to present yourself in the PO.
