God Awful Streaming Video on Asus X751s

I'm getting terrible streaming on my Asus X751s. The laptop can not cope with running any sort of video such as YouTube at any quality, has been like this since day 1 but looking at replacing now if I can't get it sorted.

Running on 2 mb/s Internet on WiFi which is great on everyone in the household's phones, Ps4 and other laptops. Using Google Chrome as well and virus scans are all clear. Also have uninstalled the junk software and games that come on it.

Main reason for getting the laptop was just for movies and streaming so pretty shocked at how poor this machine is. Other specs = CPU - Intel Dual Core N3060 up to 2.48GHzv

Anyone have any joy in the past or ideas at how to improve the laptops ability to stream video before it's binned???

that's a dire cpu for windows

what ram does it have? at least 4gb? if it's 2gb that could also be an issue

you could try to update your graphics driver

if the wifi is working ok for 720p + video on other phones and laptops then it's your laptop, not the wifi although 2 mbit / sec is slow.

this for 340 euro would be a huge upgrade

decent cpu (as good as last years i3 chips) - well over 300% quicker than the celeron chip in your current one.

    faster type ssd drive

    15.6 inch screen

won't get better for the money new.

8gb ram. What's involved with updating a graphics driver? Not particularly fussed on spending money on the heap to get her going the more I think about it after posting this thread.

Should've specified that 2mb/s is my actual download speed that I'm getting so I'm pretty happy at that. Would mainly end up downloading movies or TV shows even if they are on my Netflix or Amazon Prime, just the hassle of it.

Thanks for the recommendation, will be a while at replacing it at any rates. It's only used at my leisure at the moment so will limp on for a while yet.

After a bit of playing there I have already had the most recent update for the graphics driver installed apparently

Is the only while streaming video. Does it play local video files OK?

really shouldn't be that bad with youtube - can't say why.

you could try uninstalling chrome and reinstalling it.

have you tried a different browser like firefox or edge to see if it's the same?

otherwise a complete reinstall of windows ?

Yes I have no trouble watching '1080p' downloaded videos on Windows Media Player with the Internet connected and downloading away in the background.

I'll try Firefox here and see, if it seems to have been down to Chrome ill reinstall that.

Has been a problem since the beginning so can't see how it's down to Windows but can give that a go.

Downloaded and gave Firefox a go there and what do you know, almost perfect at 1080 but would probably leave it down at 720. Been a few years since I was last using Firefox but looks very sleek now, going to use away at it here.

Just goes to show you Google certainly isn't always perfect and not everything is a hardware issue.

Thanks Glasso and all for the tips and advice, very much appreciated.
