Advice on removing ex partner from mortgage

Where would one begin with removing an ex partner from a mortgage?

Aforementioned ex hasn't paid anything into the mortgage in around eight years and has stated that they want to take their name off the mortgage and be done with it. There's no contest there.

There's still a significant amount left on the tracker mortgage.

Mortgage approval for a new mortgage should not be a problem but obviously would not want to lose the tracker.

Any advice on where to begin with this would be greatly appreciated.

The bank is highly unlikely to agree to this as it would mean only 1 person liable where they currently have 2, nothing in it of benefit for them.

So what is in it for the bank? You are asking them to give up on one of the parties to the loan thus increase their risk of not getting paid and for what?

They are unlikely to agree to this unless there is something in it for them. Will the loan be dramatically reduced, perhaps past dues paid up to date or something.

Don’t expect them to do anything that will disadvantage themselves.

Would not agree at all with the last two posters and no I don't work for a bank. I know plenty of people who removed a partner no problem once the remaining person on the mortgage qualifies to cover the balance on the mortgage over the remaining term.

I am familiar with two different lenders who done this last year and one person was on a tracker and remained on a tracker after it was transferred into his own name.

OP do you mind sharing who your lender is and balance o/s. Your application will more or less be treated like an new application so you will need to qualify under the lenders credit criteria and policy.
