Does a caution affect applying for jobs?

Got cautioned around Dec of 2017 under Theft and Fraud. As well as that, I also had the gardai come to the house and sort of give me a "straighten out" talk a few months later.

One of my classmates say that this is probably why I'm not getting any job responses despite sending 30-40 CV's. However, someone else says that bull. Apparently cautions don't affect jobs and even if someone had a criminal record, employers can only access it once the hiring process has began.

Is this true? It would be sad since I'm hoping to get into a good course.

Are you declaring the caution when applying?

You've had a caution for theft and fraud, your nephew who's the same age as you in Canada is locked up for fogery, you want to go to UCD or Trinity to study pharmacy, you're applying for multiple jobs whilst in 5th or 6th year whilst planning what course you're going to do, and you're worried if a caution from the cops will affect you getting to college or getting an interview or wtf. All sounds a bit, eh, fishy.

No one is interested in hiring school kids is why you're not getting any replies to CVs. It's just too much hassle and the majority don't want to stay long term.
