Why would an employer withdraw my opportunity to be interviewed?

I recently graduated with my Masters and I have been struggling to land interviews since September 2018, I've only gotten one.

I had a glimmer of hope when an ENTRY LEVEL position arose in my hometown for a position I am qualified for. I received an email on Wednesday evening being invited for a telephone interview asking about my availability and to confirm my phone number. I replied obviously along the lines of that I am delighted to have the opportunity, gave them times I was available and if that didn't suit I was available at any time that suited them.

Received an email today along the lines of...

"We wanted to let you know that although your experience and resume are quite competitive, our team decided not to proceed further with your application for this role.

However, we will keep your resume on file and get in touch with you about future opportunities that could be better fit for your skills and experience.

We wish you all the best in your career and hope we will have the chance to consider your profile for another role in the future.

Please, accept our apologies for the inconvenience we might have caused".

I am absolutely devastated. I thought I was finally going to get a break, just to be shot down once more like that. I was prepared for it and everything and actually burst out into tears reading the email.

These last few months have been some of the most difficult months of my life and its beginning to take its toll. Everyone in my Masters class have secured jobs and are meeting new people and friends everyday, enjoying their free time and weekends. Here's me with no job, living with my parents, doing everything by the book to secure a job (tailoring CVs, networking, getting in contact with people internally, following up with phone calls). The excruciating loneliness doesn't help when most of you're hometown friends are elsewhere, everyone in the class has moved on and are elsewhere. Every Sunday before I go to bed I hope that this week brings some good news.

All I want is a break. To be independent and meet new people.

How sad is it to have gotten excited about getting an interview? That's another battle in itself.

Firstly I'm sorry to hear you feel so crappy. I remember feeling the same way when I was out of work. It drags you down. It was 2010 for me. Things were bleak.

I don't know where your hometown is or what you are qualified in but people used to say to me to keep the chin up & stay positive. It was hard to listen to.

I took a crap factory job that paid about €50 more than the dole just to keep me sane.

But there will be opportunities. The job market is good at the moment. I don't know the reasons why this employer pulled that interview. Maybe they are putting a halt to hiring at the moment. Brexit etc. I don't know.

Stay POSITIVE in interviews and tell them what they want to hear. Have a cry if that's the way you feel & then put it behind you. Keep in contact with friends.

    Good luck!
