I'd wait a little bit with the new RTX laptops about to sell this month.
GTX should drop and you could pick up the MSI GS65 Stealth for a lot cheaper. Great battery, packs a punch, very light.

Maybe also look at laptopsdirect.ie or overclockers.co.uk. and scan.co.uk, although I've heard problems buying from them with AIB

for 17 inch there are no real lightweight options I would say.

at 15.6 inch you will get 1.9 kg options like the msi stealth but they are expensive and usually over 1500

the lightest 17 is the alienware m17 at 2.6kg

no 17 inch gaming laptop is going to be referred to as an ultrabook

the thermal design requirements of graphics cards mean they are not going to be ultrabooks

if you're buying a new laptop I'd go for one with a gtx 2060 card (it's more powerful than the old 1070). the new dell G5 design is available now with the 2060 for under 1500 on dell.ie but I'd get the top version for 1600 with 16gb and better screen

The AlienWare seems interesting. I checked the dell.ie website. But none available at the moment.

    Try www.alienware.ie

Although the m17 battery is meant to be shocking.

you will still get great 1080p results at ultra settings on a 2060

a 1060 won't hit ultra 1080p 60fps on a lot of games and more so in the future.

whereas a 2060 will more often.

that video is certainly true more so in the case of the 2070 and 2080 as he says

    m17 - it's won't be 1500 for anything near that with a decent card - e.g 2060

    more like 2000+

the cheapest m15 with 2060 is 1850 and the m17 will be at least 100 more expensive.

weight saving in gaming laptops is not worth the high cost imo, especially at your budget

pick something reasonable in terms of weight and focus on the specs

gpu, cpu, build and screen quality

and re value the 2060 in say the G5 is cheaper than the 1070 laptops were last year but it's more powerful so I don't think that it's bad value.

and it's also a new better build quality on the rest of the laptop.

    what is your max budget?

what do you want to do on the laptop?

you don't get ultra powerful (e.g. high-end nvidia gaming card) and small / light together really as the gaming card takes up space and needs thermal/ heat transfer components to get rid of the heat produced by the graphics card (and cpu)

the closest you would get to that is the razer blade 15 which ranges from nearly 2000 euro. and it's still over 2kg.

something like a compromise price wise (and sort of size wise) is this for 820 euro (through europe , no customs)

decent cpu, graphics card that will run games at lower resolution e.g. 720p for the latest games, 1080p for older games. fast ssd drive, 8gb ram.
not too big or heavy but nice-looking 15.6 inch unit.

    dell G3 17

1060 6gb , 6core , 16gb ram. 256gb ssd. spare 2.5 inch slot if you want to put in another sata ssd or spinning drive.

use lucky100 code to get 100 off to get for 1329. comes with unbutnu. just install windows yourself

but this one is probably better G7 17
    https://www.dell.com/en-ie/shop/laptops/dell-g7-17-gaming-laptop/spd/g-series-17-7790-laptop/CNG7701

2060 card. (more powerful than 1070 card)
    .
use same code. 30 cheaper. use that to buy an extra 8gb ram stick

ssd (small) but with hd also. use ssd for windows and most used current game.

    go for the g7.

newer more powerful card and better and more attractive build (narrow screen bezels etc) on G7 over G3

actually the G7 you need with the i7 6 core is 1599 less 100 off with code = 1500

    https://www.dell.com/en-ie/shop/laptops/dell-g7-17-gaming-laptop/spd/g-series-17-7790-laptop/CNG7702

    worth the extra 100

    ssd is bigger also

Only 8 Gb RAM. The min I need is 16 Gb.

I can wait 3 months. If any new laptops come out with higher specs.

just buy a cheap 8gb ram stick.

    costs 50 euro on amazon.

most laptops only come with 8gb and the 16gb option is only on the most expensive option with other stuff (options) that you don't need to pay for.

putting in ram takes less than 10 minutes - only a few screws to take out.

so don't let that put you off.

just make sure that the 8gb in there is a 1x 8gb stick

gaming laptops always come with 2 ram spaces (slots)

most new laptops come out in the first few months of the year due to the CES show so don't be expecting new models.

this laptop already has the latest nvida 2xxx series graphics card

How would you compare HP Omen laptops with Dell Alienware? Which one is better?

depends on the specs of particular items.

can't just compare on name / brand

    post 2 configurations to compare
