Jury selection

Late last year I was called for jury duty. It was my first time in court and I found the whole thing really interesting. I had a look back on old threads and lads around jury selections but I can’t find any on objections to jurors

On the day we turned up two jury’s were selected for upcoming trials. The judge advised us about how both teams could object to jurors been selected without any reason an€ not to take offence etc. I think they co7ld each object to 7 jurors without reason

I’ve watched/ read my share of John Grisham and as much as I would like to think they had a big file on each potential juror I presume the only info they had was each jurors name, address, date of birth and maybe occupation. They also got to see each juror for a few seconds.

I appreciate its judgemental but typically why would an objection be made to a juror. For one of the jury’s the first four or five jurors selected were female and I noticed objections to next few females so I guess gender balance was what they were trying to achieve here. Is it typically that sort of stuff gender/age etc or are there other not so obvious reasons that are considered

Gender, age, social class etc....any factors that would influence what your views on things are.

I was called for Jury Duty a few years ago. There were over a hundred potential jurors ( and only 50% of the people called showed up).

As each name was called, after being pulled from a tombola , the juror went to the court room and both sets of barristers made a split second decision.
I may be wrong but I saw no evidence that they even had a list of your names, addresses occupations to look up.
I didn't tell them my DOB or occupation at any time and its not on the electrical register AFAIK so I don't think they had that information.

In one case, the defence objected to a few older people and the plaintiff to a few young people.
In another case, it looked random.

I got called last year, was rejected I assume due to to my age, as the crimes in question were allegedly committed before I was even born!
