I will be 70 in October and qualify for an over 70s medical card. Will I be able to apply for the card in advance of hitting the 70 mark or must I wait until then ?

Thanks for that. But that is not my question. What I want to know is if I can make an application in advance of my 70th., birthday, say 4 weeks before, or must I wait until I am actually 70 ? The HSE states that all applications correctly submitted with required documentation will be processed within 15 days. Maybe I'm just an old cynic but, given the HSE's record on anything it touches, I just don't believe it.

Get all your paperwork together fill the application form and submit it about 14 working days before your 70th. Most of the delays are a result of applicants not submitting the correct paper work, not signing the form GP not signing the form etc.
