Mercedes up to 2018 can’t. Not sure about others.

Apple CarPlay or Android Auto will give you the option to use Google maps which will find Eircode.

The online search function in the new BMW’s will find places via the eircode

I find this very frustrating. The built-in Sat Nav on my new(-ish) Dacia can follow post codes in Northern Ireland--just input the post code of your destination and the sat nav will plot a route. But the same doesn't work for Eircode.

Is this a general problem with built in sat navs? Surely a software update would handle an issue like this?
why don't the feckers just do it?

It may be licencing? Don't think anyone wants to pay Eircode for the whole database.

Online seraches connect to a central database but a satnav not connected to the internet would need its own db and probably a licence paid for that.

Garmin sat navs can find a loc8 code. Just google the eircode to loc8 code conversion and you can do it this way. The eircode for sat navs use is flawed and not fit for this purpose at the moment

    How is it flawed?

the majority of sat navs available cant find or use an eircode directly without a work around like the loc8 code or google maps. Then again I would doubt the eircode was designed for this purpose alone

    Hardly flawed,

If any country that never had postcodes suddenly created them tomorrow you'll find it takes time for company's to add the postcode systems to their databases and devices.

Eircodes are still "relatively new" in the scale of things, Ireland is a small market so its going to take time for Garmin etc to bother to update the map databases they ship with devices or offer as updates.

Claiming is flawed because an older system works fine is very, very silly.
loc8 was created pre 2008, by comparison Eircode's went live in July 2015, so loc8 has at least a 7 year head start.

The fault is with the companys not updating their product lines, not eircode.

Because there are maybe thousands of codes in UK, while millons in ROI. One needs online access to get them in rather up-to-date state.

Not entirely. LOC8 uses algorithmic approach, it does not require any database. Eircode is a gigantic database that changes on daily basis. Eircode is not suitable for offline applications really.

I suppose it's nice to hear people are using eircodes now.

TomTom sat navs support Eircodes directly, as does Google Maps. I'd say that's the majority covered.

i had a guy collecting books from me and all I gave him was the eircode, so it must work and is used.

...and I think putting Eircode compatibility into built-in car sat navs would be a great boost to their uptake.

I know we were late to postal/Zip codes because of our bizarre "Ah sure Jaysus everyone knows where that is" approach to direction finding but after a few years of operation, I think it's about time car makers stepped up. How hard can it be?

Well given the difference in populations I find that hard to believe, even though Eircode seems to have the bizarre methodology of giving each dwelling an individual number unlike postal codes which narrow down location typically to just one side of a street.

€25,000 per year. Doesnt encourage anyone to use it.

Garmin also supports Eircode and is working on incorporating it into older devices.

Is there a supported devices list anywhere? Mine is about 4 years old and last update only a month back didn't have eircodes.

They have only integrated in the last year or two.
