Thermal bridging - stove flue pipe?

    Hi,

Thinking about installing a wood burning stove into an extension.

Most likely we would have an exposed flue pipe going up from the stove a few feet and out the wall (with a bend), then up the outside of the new flat rooted, 2 story extension. Reason for this is that there would be a bedroom above (maybe going up through the bedroom might be an option).

Obviously given the flue pipe is metal, it would seem you'd have a pretty bad thermal bridge through the wall? Sounds a bit mad to me to be honest?

We would be out at work during the day so plenty of cold hours the stove would not be fired up.

    Any thoughts?
