Is it a case of if its there its supposed to work, just like headlight washers etc.

Waiting on a rear wiper motor and might not have it in time.

    No, rear wipers aren't tested.

That explains why I see so many broken rear wipers. That's ridiculous. There's days where it's only a light mist rain and suddenly my back window is impossible to see out of.

Turn on your rear window demister on your air-conditioning unit if you have one.

To be fair while having the rear window clean helps, it is not necessary for driving.

Think of sedans, vans etc. Mirrors usually do just fine.

Rear demister does the job, too most of the time.

Most of the broken ones belong to Renault as their idea of it coming on automatically when in reverse was not as clever as their thought. One winter and it was kaput :)

Sedans don't have them because the dirt doesn't stay on the window with air flow, pushing the rain off. The difference going from sedans to a hatchback is stark. I keep having to clean my back window with the dirt left on it after raining.

Thanks for the info folks. The motor on mine is gunged up pretty bad but a new one on the way, simple fit hopefully!
