I know unemployable dole lifes get a lot of stick here but what is your opinion on people who have been working 2/3 days a week for years and get dole for the days they don't work so are also classed as long-term unemployed

Who cares if some people claim dole along with having a job

I’d gladly do it if I could

Fine by me. No problem whatsoever with that.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

If you're working for the minimum wage then alot of the time you are much better off only working 2 or 3 days and claiming benefits for days not working. It's the way the system is and i don't think to many would rather work 5 days for less if it was the case.

I wonder who the OP was in a previous life.

Yes and a lot of employers encourage it but people who are doing this for years are surprised when the dole office refer them to tus nua because they didn't consider themselves long-term unemployed.

I thought once you worked 3 days you lost your whole weeks entitlement?
And for two days you lose something like 160 euro, so not much left after that.

I think you might be wrong.

Personally find it significantly preferable to just not working at all. There could be good reasons for not working full time.

Think you can work up to 3 days ok. It's a percentage of what you make over the days worked is deducted from your benefits.

People around these parts get very animated about people on the dole and council houses etc

But would they live for one week under those conditions only a couple of hundred a week in your pocket living in some ****hole

    I doubt it

Don't think anyone is saying it's a great life - just that those who think they are entitled to endless handouts instead of working have a disgusting attitude, particularly with how things are now, when those who work hard and pay their taxes and health insurance and put off having children and commute huge distances get **** all.

It is a disgusting attitude but they will get nowhere forever

Now the ones who can't work due to disability mental issues etc they are the ones who have my sympathy

Oh no question about that. It's only the freeloaders that people are complaining about.

I get people can have various issues with employment and end up on social welfare.
My main rule is you don't keep on having kids when you know your not working.
