    If a Garda pulls you in for careless driving, and they say to take it as a warning, can they still issue penalty points?

    Yes but I doubt it as he gave you a warning, I wouldn't worry about it.

    Thanks. I just read that you can be given a mandatory appearance court summons. If he was going this route, would he have to tell you? Thanks again for replying

    The summons is what tells you that you have a mandatory court appearance. Do they have to tell you beforehand that they are goiong to tell you later that you have a mandatory court appearance? No, they don't.
