Arcade cabinet for home

    Hi all,

I'm currently renovating a stable at home into a room/man-cave for myself - pool table, projector for movies etc. I'd love to get an arcade cabinet for myself, to relive many misspent hours playing Street Fighter 2 in the local video shop. Where would one start looking for a cabinet? I wouldn't mind building one myself if that was easiest, but something original would be really cool too. Is something like ebay and getting one shipped from the UK a good source? Or is there a source for pre-built emulator ones? I've seen the Arcade1Up ones, but they're a tad small I think, even with the pedestal. Any advice appreciated.

    Hi

Keep an eye on the marketplace here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1423

Also the UK video arcade collectors site http://www.ukvac.com/forum/for-sale_forum4.html and of course ebay. Ebay and UKVACare 99% uk sellers so add 200 for pallet delivery to Ireland.

Are you after a specific cabinet or something generic? The generic jamma wooden cabinets are usually half the price of the the Japanese "candy" plastic/metal cabinets. Game specific cabinets are more expensive again.

Best to pay more to get the cab in excellent condition and a fully working monitor. Otherwise it adds up quickly with specialised repairs.

    Happy hunting :D

Cool, thanks for the great advice.

By the way, something like this won’t go to waste - I have all my old consoles from years ago - C64, NES, SNES, GameCube, Megadrive etc - so it won’t be a party piece in a house where it’s not appreciated :-)

Monitor monitor monitor monitor monitor. It's the most important aspect. Everything else can be swapped out easily for different parts, but get the best monitor possible.

Real cabinets are becoming increasingly scare, and the price increases that go with them. Now will be cheaper than later.

Other options are lcd diy jobs, plenty on adverts.ie, though most are very pricey for what they are. If you go the diy route yourself, think carefully about aesthetics as less is often more. Don't have every game character ever created humping each other all over the shop, no need for 50 buttons and 20 joysticks. You'll end up with the car homer designs in simpsons :p

Yes I'm seeing some god-awful stuff for sale - not sure what these people were thinking! Good advice on the monitor front.

www.arcadeotaku.com is probably worth looking at. What's your man in the Netherlands sells cabinets again?

Built these two cabs myself. Both are full size replicas using Raspberry Pi and LCD screen. Went this route to minimize maintenance as real ones can be bit of a money pit. Cost about 400 each and about 15-20 hrs work

    Rklok/Ronnie.
Right now there's a whole shipment of candy cabs that a chap has brought back from Japan on Arcade Otaku marketplace. The interesting/rare ones are gone, but there's a stack of Sega Astro City / New Astro City left. All will need a good clean, and have some burn. Plus, you'd need to ship again from UK. Tbh, i wouldn't go for a candy cab unless you know that's what you're into and want.
He had some Vewlix too, but they're pricey (especially sonce they are little more than an LCD, mount, and controls).

Op, are you looking to spend 200 eur or 2000?

I'd be looking at something in the 800 - 1200 range.

Might be useful if you want a japanese candy cab.

I got one from Mitch and one from Videotronics in the UK.
